UNL Parking and Transit Services

Survey rates StarTran performance

Riders on StarTran buses that serve UNL campuses will have the opportunity to give feedback on campus bus service.

During the week of March 27, all riders will receive a short survey when they board a bus. It can be completed and submitted at the end of the route. Questions include routes, schedules, service and ideas to improve.

Results do matter.

“The results of the survey let us know how the UNL StarTran bus services are performing,” said Dan Carpenter, Director, Parking and Transit Services. “It gives riders an opportunity to tell us what we need to change or add. We identify problem areas and ways to improve.”

University campus routes and riders are the largest segment of StarTran ridership. Results of the survey are tallied, reviewed, evaluated and shared by both StarTran and the University.

“We invite – and urge – you to complete the survey and share your feedback and opinions,” Carpenter said.

Get a parking ticket: Pay the fine or appeal

If you violate a parking rule on campus, Parking and Transit Services Enforcement will leave a ticket on your windshield. You have 14 days to pay the fine for the citation or appeal it.

You can pay your parking citation in person at the Parking and Transit Services office, 625 Stadium Drive, or pay online at https://unlpts.t2hosted.com/Account/Portal

If you think the citation was issued in error, you can submit an appeal in person or online at https://unlpts.t2hosted.com/Account/Portal

The appeal must provide substantial evidence that the parking violation was not committed, or that circumstances were completely beyond your control. This process is not a forum for complaints on the parking rules or personal dilemmas. Full details on the payment and appeals process are available at http://parking.unl.edu/citation-payment-appeal

Reminder: Update vehicle registration with new license plate

When you register a vehicle in Nebraska in 2017, you will receive a new license plate, with new numbers. If your vehicle has a UNL Parking Permit, you must update your parking registration with the new license plate information. A permit registered with the old license information will be invalid – and you can receive a parking ticket.

To update your license plate information, access your Online Parking Service Account, enter the new registration information and delete the old listing account. Log on at https://unlpts.t2hosted.com/Account/Portal

Costs drop for campus bus services with StarTran

Good news: costs for bus services through the University partnership with the City of Lincoln and StarTran are decreasing. This news comes as the University pursues a new five-year service contract with StarTran. As a result, student fees allocated to provide campus bus service will be reduced.

“The lower costs reflect the shift from our initial purchase of five new buses as we began this partnership, to scheduled long term replacement of buses serving the routes over the next 15 years,” said Dan Carpenter, Director Parking and Transit Services. “We are able to provide continuing support and transportation without increasing costs.”

Funding for busing services comes from three sources:
• Student fees: 43%
• Parking funds: 45%
• University funds: 12%

“These new terms will reduce the request for funds from each student $.93 per semester in student fees,” said Carpenter. “It also reinforces positive results of our partnership with StarTran.”

The reduction in fees begins at the start of the 2017-2018 academic year.
