Update Your Google Analytics Settings

Many UNL websites have their own Google Analytics tracking code. By default, Google Analytics puts its browser cookies on the unl.edu top level domain. We've seen users encounter a problem where they accumulate a large number of Google cookies as they browse many different UNL websites. Their browser attempts to include all of these cookies with each request. Eventually there are too many and they start to receive error messages such as "431: Request Header Fields Too Large".

We need all site owners that are using Google Analytics, whether on the CMS or not, to add a "cookie_domain" parameter to their Google Analytics to specify their site's domain name. Instructions for the Next-Gen CMS are provided here. For developers implementing code directly, see the cookie_domain section of the Google Analytics docs.
