A heatmapping tool in our fully on-premise web analytics system, Matomo, is now available for the use of university web developers.
Because heatmapping can introduce latency to the user experience, DXG will manage the service; please request through the WDN Slack #analytics channel if you would like heat maps to run on your website. All heat maps will be run on a limited-duration basis, collecting data from a set number of visits before the sampling is suspended.
Available at webanalytics.unl.edu, Matomo is a full-featured analytics platform that provides an adjunct or full alternative to Google Analytics. Several features are available in Matomo that are not available in GA, such as heatmaps. Also, as the Matomo analytics data never leaves the unl.edu domain, it can be a better fit in some circumstances where GA has been removed.
