UNL Web Framework Version 6.1 Launches May 26

UNL Web Framework Version 6.1 is scheduled to launch on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 26. Incorporating user feedback, version 6.1 will bring user interface improvements to login and navigation.

On desktop, the Visit / Apply / Give call to action links will move from the navigation menu back to their previous location in the global header. However, sites that don't include optional localized call to action links (e.g., "Visit the College of Arts and Sciences," "Give to the Department of Music") will no longer activate popup menus. Instead, the links will point directly to the general university pages for their respective calls to action.

On mobile, the toolbar will "float" above the content, no longer attaching to the viewport edges. This will be accompanied by animated transitions between open and closed states.

Across all browser viewport widths, "Log In" will be renamed "My UNL." When the My UNL dialog is opened, login and logout options will be displayed as buttons not links, providing improved clarity to these actions. Canvas links are also redesigned to better match the style of the other services listed.

Sites already in UNL CMS will automatically update to version 6.1 and should require little to no work as a result. Owners of sites not in UNL CMS will need to update template files, and additional updates to HTML, CSS and JavaScript may be required.

Deployment of Framework Version 6.1 is scheduled for May 26, after the completion of the spring semester, to minimize any potential disruption.

More details will be announced here at Web Developer Network (WDN) meetings and on the Framework Roadmap page on the WDN site.
