What is the WGSS MA? At Florida Atlantic University, the Center for Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies offers a two-year masters degree with interdisciplinary coursework across the humanities and social sciences. We focus on educating critical thinkers, educators, and creative individuals who want to use their knowledge of Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies to become change agents in their communities and in the world.
What can I do with an MA in WGSS? Our graduates have gone on to work in education, non-profits and NGOs, higher ed administration, human resources, business, law, and the arts. The degree is flexible, offering subject-area expertise and critical thinking skills that are desirable in a wide range of professions. In particular, because WGSS investigates the importance of diversity and inclusion, our graduates bring valuable experience in these crucial areas to their future workplaces. There are three options for the degree, including a thesis options, an internship options, and a generalist option. Through advising and customized plans of study, students have extensive opportunities to focus on the projects, research questions, and issues that are most important to them.
When and how do I apply? We have rolling admissions until May 1st. Because of the global pandemic, we are waiving standardized testing, including the GRE. An online quiz through Duolingo is available in place of TOEFL.
At FAU’s Center for Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, funded MA students receive tuition remission for two years and are paid a minimum of $8,000 per year to serve as teaching and research assistants during their education. We offer funding to the majority of accepted, qualified applicants.
