Camilla Cortney, TLTE senior mathematics education student, was selected to receive one of four Mathematics Education Trust Prospective Teacher NCTM Annual Conference Attendance Awards. This award, totaling $1,200 plus conference registration, will enable her to attend the NCTM Annual Meeting and Exposition in New Orleans this April. Camilla's primary focus at the conference will be to attend sessions that will enable her to better serve English language learner students in her mathematics classes.

Committed to reaching all students, Cortney is student teaching at a low-income middle school where she has seen the impact of poverty and the achievement gap that persists for those students.

“Not only am I interested in becoming more aware of how to connect and access all students in my classroom, but I believe it is critical for the success of my students,” she said. “Attending the NCTM Annual Meeting in New Orleans will allow me the opportunity to develop professionally and gather resources to help me meet the needs of ELL students.”
