The Academy for Child and Family Well Being (ACFW) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will host a book fair to benefit the Nebraska Letterbox Club Sunday, Nov. 12, at the Barnes & Noble store at SouthPointe Pavilions in Lincoln.

The book fair will run from noon-6 p.m. at the Barnes & Noble location at 2910 Pine Lake Road. Several free activities will be offered, including make-and-take crafts, a scavenger hunt, bookmark making and temporary tattoos. In addition, anyone who mentions Letterbox at checkout will have a percentage of their purchases during the book fair donated to the Nebraska Letterbox Club, which sends monthly educational packages to children in Nebraska’s foster care system.

Individuals are also able to support the Nebraska Letterbox Club by shopping online through Barnes & Noble from Nov. 12-17. Visit http://bn.com/bookfairs, and enter book fair ID 12256087 at checkout.

All proceeds for the Nebraska Letterbox Club go toward sending monthly packages filled with books, math activities, games, stationery, and handwritten letters to each child in the Letterbox program for six months. The first of the six packages for this year’s group will be sent in February. Each year, ACFW budgets about $200 per child, which covers all of the books and materials, as well as shipping costs.

This marks the sixth year that ACFW has partnered with the Letterbox Club, a program that began in the United Kingdom in 2007. The Letterbox Club at Nebraska was the first partnership in existence in the United States, with Clemson University adding the program last year.
