The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Senior Design Showcase, the state's premier undergraduate engineering student design event, is 1 to 3:30 p.m. April 27 in Memorial Stadium's East Stadium Club Level.
The showcase is free and open to the public. Guests can browse innovative projects from graduating College of Engineering students and vote on their favorite for the People's Choice Award.
The showcase features nearly 50 student projects that reflect real-world professional environments. In some cases, students have collaborated with industry clients to develop products and devices that will have immediate impacts.
Projects include:
· A team of electrical, computer and civil engineering students' water treatment plant model, which will be displayed outside the East Stadium entrance. The portable model is meant to be used as a learning tool for future engineering students.
· Four biological systems engineering students and a Creighton University medical student's device to help first responders perform intubations on patients in the field during emergency situations.
· Three teams of mechanical and materials engineering students' work with Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital developing devices that can immediately help patients.
· Four electrical and computer engineering students' shoe insole that uses a foot temperature monitoring sensor to help prevent foot ulcers in diabetes patients.
The event also includes tours of the Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory in East Stadium. Tours will be led by Curt Tomasevicz, lecturer in electrical and computer engineering, Olympic bobsled gold medalist and former Husker football player.
