Don Wilhite, climatologist and professor, will discuss the implications of climate change for Nebraska at 2 p.m., Aug. 23 at the Unitarian Church of Lincoln (6300 A Street). The talk is free and open to the public.

"We all face significant economic, social and environmental risks associated with climate change, both locally and globally. The body of scientific evidence confirms that human activities are the primary cause for the warming the planet has experienced, especially in recent decades," Wilhite said.

His talk will be based in part on the UNL report "Understanding and Assessing Climate Change: Implications for Nebraska" (http://go.unl.edu/yqtv), which was released in September 2014. The report has become a definitive source for Nebraskans who want to understand how the state will be impacted by climate change in coming decades.

The event is free of charge and sponsored by the Green Sanctuary committee of the Unitarian Church, EnergyLinc, Nebraska Interfaith Power & Light, and Citizens' Climate Lobby. These and other organizations will be available in the gallery space with information after the presentation.
