From the Geography and GIScience area:

Please join us in welcoming two new master of arts students this spring. Kathryn (Kathie) Pfaffle and Matthew Gregor are both interested in GIScience. Kathie is being advised by Jim Merchant and Matthew is working with Gene Guan.

Kathie completed her undergraduate degree in the UNL Environmental Studies program in December. Her academic interests include GIS and community and regional planning. She is currently interning at the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources in a GIS-related position. Kathie is originally from Sioux City, Iowa, where she still visits her family frequently. In her spare time, Kathie enjoys working out at the gym, practicing yoga, reading, and occasionally cooking and baking. She loves animals, snow skiing, and being outdoors. This coming year she hopes to start a garden and to purchase and frequently ride a bicycle.

Matthew is originally from Copperas Cove, Texas. He graduated from Pope John High School in Elgin, Neb., and started at UNL back in 2003. Before completing his degree, however, he joined the Air Force. The Air Force took him to Sumter, S.C., and a lot of other interesting places. His work in the Air Force focused on GIS and cartography, and these interests eventually led him to geography. After his tour of duty, he attended UNO, where he finished his bachelor's degree in December.
