Author to discuss Plains Indians war book

Hugh Reilly will read from and discuss his book “Bound to Have Blood” at 7 p.m., Oct. 5 at the University Bookstore. The book is published by University of Nebraska Press.

The book uses primary sources and eyewitness accounts of eight watershed events in the Plains Indians war. Those events are: the Great Sioux Uprising in Minnesota, the Sand Creek massacre, the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868, the Battle of the Little Big Horn, the flight of the Nez Perce, the Cheyenne outbreak, the trial of Standing Bear and the massacre at Wounded Knee in 1890 and its aftermath.

Reilly is an associate professor in the School of Communication at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He is also a member of UNO’s Native American studies faculty.

A book signing will follow the free, open to the public reading.
