Untitled Document ROSS MEDIA ARTS CENTER, FRI 7PM Ross Media Arts Center to be Dedicated More than 200 friends and supporters of the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center at 313 N. 13th St. will celebrate the opening of this new facility at UNL during a private dedication ceremony Friday at 7pm. The event is the first time the center's major benefactor, Mary Riepma Ross, 92, of New York City, will see the completed building in person.

Giacomo Oliva, dean of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, said Ross' generosity "helped create one of the finest venues of its kind in the country."

"It would not have been possible for the university alone to elevate the media arts programs," Oliva said. "It's Mary Ross' generosity and vision that enabled us to create this state-of-the-art facility, strengthen our academic programs and improve the film offerings to the public."

Speakers at the dedication include Harvey Perlman, chancellor of UNL; Terry Fairfield, president of the University of Nebraska Foundation; Oliva and Ladely. Another scheduled speaker is former Nebraska governor and U.S. Sen. Bob Kerrey, president of New School University in New York City and a founding member of the Friends of the Ross Media Arts Center.

The Ross Media Arts Center is home to a comprehensive exhibition program that acknowledges the moving image as a principal art form. The new facility features two auditoriums for film and video screenings, the most up-to-date screening technology, research library, film and video archives, classrooms for the film and new media program and offices.

The new media arts center is home to the Department of Theatre Arts' Film and New Media Program and will serve the future Center for Film and New Media Productions. Students use the auditoriums for various courses, including introduction to film history, introduction to film medium, documentary film, women filmmakers, film theory and criticism. The film program includes courses offered by various academic areas, including art, art history, history, music, theater, English, philosophy and journalism.

••• FRI-SAT Innocents to Celebrate Centennial
The UNL Innocents Society, the chancellor's senior honorary organization, is set to commemorate its inception 100 years ago with a reunion called "Innocentennial" this Friday and Saturday.

Friday's activities include campus tours led by the current 13 members of Innocents Society and a 6:45pm. dinner and program at the Cornhusker Hotel. The dinner features remarks by Bob Kerrey, president of New School University in New York City, former Nebraska governor and U.S. senator, and a 1964-65 Innocent. On Saturday, activities center around the Nebraska vs. Utah State football game.

The Innocents Society is unique to Nebraska and the activities of the society are among NU's longest-standing traditions: Ivy Day, the Missouri Bell exchange, Masters Week and campus forums. Membership is based on superior academic achievement, unparalleled leadership, and selfless service to the university and community.

Thirteen senior students have been inducted into the society each year with the exception of two years during World War II when no members were inducted and several years in the 1970s when 15 were inducted. Records show a total membership to date of 1,271. The Nebraska Alumni Association, sponsor of the reunion, was able to locate 713 living members and has received reunion reservations from 336.
