Rusty Brown graphic novel and Chris Ware
SHELDON MEMORIAL ART GALLERY | LIVE WEBCAST
Sheldon Gallery Hosts Ware Exhibition and Talk

"Chris Ware" is an exhibition that includes drawings and materials related to the artist's upcoming graphic novel based in Omaha. On view Feb. 16 and continuing through April 29 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery, the exhibition opens with a reception and public conversation between Ware and Sheldon curator Daniel Siedell from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 16, with their talk beginning at 5:30 p.m. The conversation will be available on a live Web cast at www.unl.edu.

Of his novel, the artist writes: "'Rusty Brown' is a graphic novel I began many years ago and am serializing chapter by chapter in my regular comic book, 'The ACME Novelty Library.' It concerns the doings of a group of seven people all either employed by or attending a private high school in Omaha, Neb., which bears a striking, affectionate and hopefully non-litigious resemblance to the 1970s version of my own high school, Brownell-Talbot, though all of the main characters and situations are completely invented." more...

MARY RIEPMA ROSS MEDIA ARTS CENTER
The Last King of Scotland, Iraq In Fragments Show at the Ross

UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents The Last King of Scotland and Iraq In Fragments. Both films will show through February 22.

now showing a the ross

In The Last King of Scotland, a Scottish doctor (James McAvoy) on a Ugandan medical mission becomes irreversibly entangled with one of the world's most barbaric figures: Idi Amin (Forest Whitaker). Impressed by Dr. Garrigan's brazen attitude in a moment of crisis, the newly self-appointed Ugandan President Amin hand picks him as his personal physician and closest confidante. Though Garrigan is at first flattered and fascinated by his new position, he soon awakens to Amin's savagery - and his own complicity in it. Horror and betrayal ensue as Garrigan tries to right his wrongs and escape Uganda alive.

Iraq In Fragments illuminates post-war Iraq in three acts, building a vivid picture of a country pulled in different directions by religion and ethnicity. Filmed in cinema verite style, the film powerfully explores the lives of ordinary Iraqis: people whose thoughts, beliefs, aspirations, and concerns are at once personal and illustrative of larger issues in Iraq today.

More information is available at the Ross website.
