SHELDON MEMORIAL ART GALLERY, THROUGH JULY 1
Sheldon's 'Sculptors on Paper' Continues
The Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will present more than 30 works on paper by American sculptors in a new exhibition. "Sculptors on Paper," drawn from the museum's permanent collections, examines the ways artists have used two-dimensional media in tandem with sculpture.
On view through July 1, this exhibition invites visitors to examine how artists who have created many of the outstanding sculptures in the Sheldon's collections, including some displayed outdoors on the UNL campus, have approached different media. In some cases, there are relationships between the works in two dimensions and in the round; in other instances, the approaches differ dramatically. more...

STARTING MAY 7
Iconic 'Torn Notebook' Sculpture to Undergo Conservation
Beginning May 7, the public sculpture "Torn Notebook" by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen will undergo conservation treatment. Installed in 1996 at the corner of 12th and Q streets on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, the popular sculpture has deteriorated from exposure to the elements.
Sited in a transitional area from downtown Lincoln to the campus, the dramatic, playful sculpture includes three components: a large notebook held by a spiral and two nearby torn pages, which appear to be blowing in the wind. The $70,000 conservation project will take four to six weeks to complete and will include repainting the entire sculpture as well as repairing a damaged section of the notebook spiral. Glasson Sculpture Works of New York will complete the conservation treatment. more...

MARY RIEPMA ROSS MEDIA ARTS CENTER
The Host, The Animation Show Play at the Ross
UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents The Host and The Animation Show. Both films will run through May 10.
The talk of the 2006 Cannes International Film Festival, The Host, the latest film from critically acclaimed visionary director Bong Joon-ho, has already garnered a substantial amount of international buzz. Utilizing state-of-the-art special effects courtesy of a creative partnership between Weta Workshop (King Kong, The Lord of the Rings) and The Orphanage (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Sin City), The Host is equal parts creature-feature thrill ride and poignant human drama.
The Animation Show is an annual feature-length compilation of the best animated short films from around the world, exclusively curated by Mike Judge (Office Space, "Beavis and Butt-Head," "King of the Hill") and Academy Award nominated animator Don Hertzfeldt (Billy's Balloon, Rejected, The Meaning of Life). The Animation Show launched in 2003, making it the first festival of animation created and produced with actual animators at the helm. A sister series of high quality Animation Show DVDs now supplement the theatrical tour with additional insights and brand new lineups of films - while the main Show remains a unique and unforgettable annual program that is usually gone forever once it is out of theaters.
