SHELDON MEMORIAL ART GALLERY, THROUGH JULY 1
Sheldon's 'Sculptors on Paper' Continues

The Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will present more than 30 works on paper by American sculptors in a new exhibition. "Sculptors on Paper," drawn from the museum's permanent collections, examines the ways artists have used two-dimensional media in tandem with sculpture.

On view through July 1, this exhibition invites visitors to examine how artists who have created many of the outstanding sculptures in the Sheldon's collections, including some displayed outdoors on the UNL campus, have approached different media. In some cases, there are relationships between the works in two dimensions and in the round; in other instances, the approaches differ dramatically. more...

'Flow,' Sheldon Statewide Exhibit, Explores Water as Subject of Art

Before embarking on a 14-month tour of galleries across Nebraska, the 2007-2008 Nebraska Statewide exhibition, "Flow," opens in May at Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Symbolizing purity, sustenance, tranquility, power, movement and continuity, water is a source of life as well as destruction and death. Its surface serves as a metaphor for self-reflection and contemplation. Humans rely on water and take it for granted. We pollute it, misuse it and fight over it. It is easily accessible and inexpensive to some while nearly out of reach to others. more...

The charming Cecile de France sizzles as a waitress with a dream in the French romantic comedy Avenue Montaigne. Directed by Daniele Thompson (JET LAG) and written by Thompson and her son, Christopher (who also plays a major role in the film), Avenue Montaigne takes place on the fashionable Paris street from which the film takes its name. In the middle of it all is wide-eyed Jessica, who has an innocent love of life that captures the heart of just about everyone she comes into contact with. Reminiscent of such fine French films as Look At Me and Va Savoir, Avenue Montaigne features unique, interesting characters, excellent acting, and a lot of fun and fascinating talk about art, music, theater, food, and other cultural

A battle of naked ambition played out on the national and, ultimately, world stage, Air Guitar Nation chronicles the birth of the U.S. Air Guitar Championships as legions of aspiring rock stars live out their dreams on a quest to become the world champion in a strange world where musical ability plays second fiddle to virtual virtuosity. As the film un-reels, two aspiring rock legends strum and strut their way towards glory and the coveted national title. Full of triumph and disappointment, patriotic spirit and political tension - and, of course, invisible guitars - Air Guitar Nation and filmmaker Alexandra Lipsitz take audiences on an inspiring, exhilarating, and ultimately hilarious journey that delves deep to find out what it truly takes to become the best in the world and find the inner meaning of the chant, "Make Air, Not War."
