NEBRASKA STATE MUSEUM
Forsberg's 'On Ancient Wings' Exhibit Celebrates Sandhill Cranes
An exhibit of photographs by Lincoln photographer Michael Forsberg at the University of Nebraska State Museum coincides with the sandhill cranes' arrival in Nebraska. Through 44 stunning color photographs, "On Ancient Wings," on exhibit through Aug. 14 in the museum's third-floor Cooper Gallery, intertwines the lives of cranes, people and their common places.
Forsberg engaged in an extraordinary five-year, 65,000-mile personal odyssey from the Alaskan tundra to the arid high plains of the American West, from Cuban nature preserves to suburban backyards in Florida to document the cranes' native habitat, flyways and annual journeys. Forsberg's work also recorded the extraordinary human efforts undertaken to raise young birds and return them to their natural habitat, and his exploration reveals the challenges cranes face to adapt and survive in a rapidly changing natural world. more...

MARY RIEPMA ROSS MEDIA ARTS CENTER
Nanking and Funny Games Play at the Ross
UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Nanking and Funny Games. Both films will show through March 27.
In 1937, Japanese armed forces entered Nanking, China, and systematically raped and killed over 200,000 Chinese in one of human history's worst atrocities. Decades later, there's still bad blood and unresolved tensions. Nanking, a wrenching documentary from Bill Guttentag and Dan Sturman, combines harrowing archival footage, interviews with survivors (including contrite Japanese vets), and reenactments. Nanking is very well made and should be considered required viewing, but be warned: some of the rarely-before-seen archival footage is truly graphic and disturbing. Based on the bestselling book, The Rape of Nanking, by Iris Chang, the film is presented in English, Japanese, and Mandarin with English subtitles.
Funny Games, a provocative and brutal thriller from director Michael Haneke finds a vacationing family gets an unexpected visit from two deeply disturbed young men. Their idyllic holiday turns nightmarish as they are subjected to unimaginable terrors and struggle to stay alive. Remade from his own acclaimed 1997 film, Funny Games is written and directed by Michael Haneke (Cache), and stars Naomi Watts, Tim Roth, Michael Pitt, Brady Corbet and Devon Gearhart.
More information is available at the Ross website.
