Summer Sessions
Summer Sessions Registration Continues

Registration for Summer Session courses at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is in its fourth week. Students should sign-up early since summer registration is on a first-come, first-served basis with no priority for class rank or major.

More than 1,000 morning, afternoon, and evening courses are offered in a three-week pre-session, an eight-week session, and two five-week sessions. Summer Session is a great opportunity to graduate sooner, take a prerequisite, avoid scheduling conflicts, and enjoy smaller classes.

Metaphors of the Heart
SHELDON MUSEUM OF ART
'Metaphors of the Heart' Continues at Sheldon

"Metaphors of the Heart," featuring the spiritual and spellbinding photographs of Luis Gonzalez Palma, continues at Sheldon Museum of Art. For more than 20 years, Palma has challenged standard photography through experimenting with media, using a painterly style and incorporating collage. The photographs in the exhibition date between 1989 and 2005.

Born in Guatemala in 1957, Palma was reared in the Catholic Church in the midst of Guatemala's civil war and his early images express the inner strength and beauty of the Mayan people. more...

MARY RIEPMA ROSS MEDIA ARTS CENTER
The Band's Visit and City of Men Play at the Ross

UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents The Band's Visit and City Of Men. Both films will show through April 10.

Israeli filmmaker Eran Kolirin's debut feature, The Band's Visit, is a subtle, heartfelt, and humane work that goes a long way toward dissolving the incredibly complex cultural divide that continues to plague the Middle East. Kolirin perfectly navigates his film's slice-of-life tone, blending comedy and drama and poignancy without ever succumbing to one completely. In the wrong hands, this material could turn into a quirk-fest that parodies everyday life. Yet under Kolirin's assured command, it becomes something that feels like life itself. The Band's Visit is funny, lonely, inspiring, sad, and beautiful all at once.

In City Of Men, producer Fernando Meirelles (The Constant Gardner) returns to the Brazilian favelas of his Academy Award-nominated film, City of God. Growing up in a culture dictated by violence and run by street gangs, teenagers Acerola (Douglas Silva) and Laranjinha (Darlan Cunha) have become close as brothers. With their eighteenth birthdays fast approaching, Laranjinha sets out to find the father he never met, while Acerola struggles to raise his own young son. But when they suddenly find themselves on opposite sides of a gang war, the lifelong friends are forced to confront a shocking secret from their shared past.
