State Museum Features Forsberg's 'On Ancient Wings' Exhibit
An exhibit of photographs by Lincoln photographer Michael Forsberg continues at the University of Nebraska State Museum. Through 44 stunning color photographs, "On Ancient Wings," on exhibit through Aug. 14 in the museum's third-floor Cooper Gallery, intertwines the lives of cranes, people and their common places.
Forsberg engaged in an extraordinary five-year, 65,000-mile personal odyssey from the Alaskan tundra to the arid high plains of the American West, from Cuban nature preserves to suburban backyards in Florida to document the cranes' native habitat, flyways and annual journeys. Forsberg's work also recorded the extraordinary human efforts undertaken to raise young birds and return them to their natural habitat, and his exploration reveals the challenges cranes face to adapt and survive in a rapidly changing natural world. more...

'Peace, Love and Psychedelic Sixties' Continues at Sheldon
"Peace, Love, and the Psychedelic Sixties," an exhibition drawn from artworks in the Sheldon Museum of Art collection that were created in the 1960s, continues at the Sheldon.
The exhibition includes three elements, the largest offering artworks that express the mythologized vision of the 1960s still alive in the popular imagination. Battle For Haditha and My Brother Is An Only Child Play at the Ross
UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Battle For Haditha and My Brother Is An Only Child. Both films will show one week only through July 3.
Documentary filmmaker Nick Broomfield (Aileen Wurnos: The Selling of a Serial Killer, and Kurt And Courtney) turns his attention to the war in Iraq in this fiction film. Using a real-life military massacre in Haditha as his starting point, Broomfield tells the stories of young American soldiers and Iraqis that is sympathetic to both perspectives in the conflict. A shoot-and-run style and a cast of nonprofessional actors--made up of ex-soldiers and Iraqi civilians--add authenticity to this chaotic drama.
Set in a small Italian town in the 60’s and 70’s, My Brother Is An Only Child tells the story of two brothers who want to change the world – but in completely different ways. The elder, Manrico (Riccardo Scarmaccio), is a handsome, charismatic firebrand who becomes the prime mover in the local Communist party. Accio, (Elio Germano) the younger, more rebellious brother, finds his own contrarian voice by joining the reactionary Fascists. What starts as a typical tale of sibling rivalry becomes the story of the polarizing and paralyzing politics of those turbulent times. The rift between the brothers is further intensified when Accio realizes that he loves his brother's girlfriend, Francesca (Diane Fleri) who, like everyone else, is blind to Manrico's increasingly dangerous ideas. An intensely cinematic and incredibly incisive film about the dreams and disillusionments of the 60's and 70's, My Brother Is An Only Child is set in the exact era of the groundbreaking early classics of Bernardo Bertolucci and Marco Bellochio.
