Repertory Theatre Presents Souvenir
The Nebraska Repertory Theatre, the professional Actors Equity Association wing of the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, opens its 41st season with Souvenir: A Fantasia on the Life of Florence Foster Jenkins. Performances are July 10, 11, 12, 19, August 1, 8 at 7:30 p.m. and July 27 at 2:00 p.m. in the Temple Theatre, on the corner of 12th and R Streets, Lincoln NE.
Souvenir is written by Stephen Temperley and directed by NRT Artistic Director Virginia Smith. What if the most confident, dedicated, inspiring singer you've ever met was incapable of bringing the music in her head out of her mouth? Would you laugh until tears came? Would you wonder if she was faking? Would you come to love her? The answers are yes, of course. Join Cosme McMoon, her accompanist, as he shares in and reports the meteoric rise of one of music's most amazing real-life characters; one whose Carnegie Hall debut sold out in a now legendary two hours. 'Visual Systems: The Quilter's Eye' Focus of New Quilt Exhibition
Expressive qualities and sophisticated use of design elements distinguish the quilts in "Visual Systems: The Quilter's Eye," an International Quilt Study Center and Museum exhibit opening July 9 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Eisentrager-Howard Gallery.
This exhibition runs through Sept. 25 and features a selection of historical and contemporary quilts from the collection of the International Quilt Study Center and Museum at UNL. Curator Peggy Derrick, quilt studies graduate student in the UNL Department of Textiles, Clothing and Design, created the exhibition in cooperation with UNL's Department of Art and Art History. Films of the 1960s' is Theme of Summer 'Movies on the Green' Series
The Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center and the University Program Council will again unspool the annual Jensen's Cinema 16 Collection Movies on the Green 2008 series. The theme for this year's series is "Films of the 1960s." All screenings are presented on the lawn north of Kimball Recital Hall, 11th and R streets. Screenings are free and open to the public and begin at dusk (approximately 9 p.m.).
The series is presented Thursdays July 10 through Aug. 14 with the support of and donations from the Lincoln Arts Council, the Rogers Foundation, Jerry Jensen, Kimball Hall, IATSE Local 151, Friends of the Ross, and US Bank. This weeks film is Fred Zinnemann's A Man for All Seasons, an adaptation of the Robert Bolt play. more...
