Repertory Theatre Presents Doubt
The Nebraska Repertory Theatre, the professional Actors Equity Association wing of the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, continues its 41st season with Doubt: A Parable. Performances are July 16, 17, & 18 at 7:30 p.m. and July 27 at 2:00 p.m. in the Temple Theatre, on the corner of 12th and R Streets, Lincoln NE.
In the drama Doubt: A Parable, Sister Aloysius, a Bronx school principal, takes matters into her own hands when she suspects the young Father Flynn of improper relations with one of the male students. Tickets for this and other performances are on sale at the Lied Center Ticket Office at 472-4747.

Films of the 1960s is Theme of Summer 'Movies on the Green' Series
The Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center and the University Program Council will again unspool the annual Jensen's Cinema 16 Collection Movies on the Green 2008 series. The theme for this year's series is "Films of the 1960s." All screenings are presented on the lawn north of Kimball Recital Hall, 11th and R streets. Screenings are free and open to the public and begin at dusk (approximately 9 p.m.).
This week's film is Franco Zeffirelli's Taming of the Shrew, a visually-arresting adaptation of the classic Shakespeare play, featuring dynamic performances by Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. more...

Mongol and The Edge Of Heaven Play at the Ross
UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Mongol and The Edge Of Heaven. The Edge Of Heaven will show through July 17, while Mongol will screen through July 31
Filmed in the very lands that gave birth to Genghis Khan, Mongol transports us back to a distant and exotic period in world history; to a nomad's landscape of endless space, climatic extremes and ever-present danger. In a performance of powerful stillness and subtlety, celebrated young Japanese actor Asano Tadanobu (Zatoichi, Last Life in the Universe) captures the inner fire that enabled a hunted boy to become a legendary conqueror. Asano's achievement is matched by those of his co-stars, including the radiant newcomer Khulan Chuluun as Khan's courageous, spirited wife Borte, and the Chinese actor Honglei Sun (The Road Home) as the Mongol chieftain Jamukha, Khan's dearest friend and deadliest enemy. Masterfully blending action and emotion against some of the most arresting terrain on earth, Bodrov delivers an exciting and awe-inspiring tale of survival and triumph, and a love story for the ages.
There are six principal characters in The Edge of Heaven: two mothers, two daughters, a father and a son, all arranged in more or less symmetrical pairs. In the course of this extraordinary film by the German writer-director Fatih Akin (which won the best screenplay award in Cannes last year) children are lost, lost parents are never found, and generational and geographical distances grow wider. Yet at the same time, as the lives of the characters cross and entwine, there is a sense of human connections becoming stronger and thicker, of a fragile moral order coalescing beneath the randomness and cruelty of modern life.
