Office of Undergraduate Studies Hosts Mid-Semester Check
The fifth annual mid-semester check at UNL for first-year and entering transfer students concludes tonight with a final session. The program will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the Nebraska Union.
Faculty and staff will lead workshops that offer recommendations for success in large classes, writing for college, success in college mathematics courses, undergraduate research opportunities, study abroad, tips for using Blackboard and other technology, choosing a major, preparing for health professions, time management, financial management, and working with an academic adviser.

David Gergen launches 2008-09 E.N. Thompson Forum
Scholar and presidential adviser David Gergen will give the first lecture in the 2008-09 E.N. Thompson Forum on World Issues at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His speech, "Eyewitness to Power: The Essence of Leadership," will be at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts, 301 N. 12th St.
Gergen served as director of communications for Ronald Reagan and also held positions in the Nixon, Ford and Clinton administrations. He serves as editor-at-large at U.S. News and World Report and is a professor of public service at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government and director of its Center for Public Leadership. Seminar on Climate Change Effects and Solutions for Cities, Nature
A seminar Sept. 18-19 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Architecture will focus on "Climate Change and the Physical Environment: Effect and Affect," as local and regional experts will discuss potential solutions for a better world.
