OASIS Hosts Fiesta on the Green
The Office of Academic Support and Intercultural Services at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is pleased presents the sixth annual Fiesta on the Green tonight from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Nebraska Union Plaza (rain site: Nebraska Union Ballroom) as part of the National Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration.
In addition to a variety of musical performers, the event will feature two local mexican restaurants selling food and two local store vendors. The event is free and open to the public. more...

Green Museum, Green Quilts: It's Good to be Green
Contemporary quilts display planet-friendly themes in an exhibition continuing at the International Quilt Study Center and Museum at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The museum, designed to be ecologically sustainable, partnered with the manufacturer of the Mountain Mist corn fiber-based quilt batting product to sponsor the "Crafting a Better Planet" quilt competition. The quilts of the competition finalists are complemented by antique quilts from the museum's collection which show examples of Mountain Mist quilting patterns widely used during the first half of the 20th century. more...

The Last Mistress and Frozen River Play at the Ross
UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents The Last Mistress and Frozen River. Both films will show through September 25.
Controversial director Catherine Breillat (Romance, Fat Girl) delivers her most ambitious film yet with The Last Mistress. Adapted from the novel by Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly, the film is set in 19th-century France, when the world was a seemingly much more innocent place. Underneath the surface, however, lurk infidelities and other dark secrets. A lush period piece that nonetheless has a universal, modern message, and it makes many daring statements about love, lust, and romance.
Courtney Hunt's remarkable and deeply emotional first feature Frozen River is a realistic look at the world of human smuggling and the difficult choices facing poor, single mothers. A wonderfully directed film full of atmosphere, heart, and outstanding performances by Melissa Leo and Misty Upham, the film is ultimately about the strength that resides in family and the way hope in a dire situation can be uncovered by courage and trust.
