ROBERT HILLESTAD TEXTILES GALLERY, SUN 3PM
'Grandma's Talking to Ghosts' Opening at Hillestad Gallery

The Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on Dec. 1-19 will exhibit work of Jennifer Graham that illuminates the beauty that can be discovered among the artifacts and heirlooms of a family. An opening reception will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30.

Graham, a master's degree candidate in the UNL Department of Textiles, Clothing and Design, used family photos and documents to look deeper into the life and work of her paternal grandmother, who suffers from Alzheimer's Disease, and is no longer able to pass on family history herself. The result is "Grandma's Talking to Ghosts: A Family History Reclaimed," on exhibit on the second floor of the Home Economics Building, 35th Street north of East Campus Loop. more...

The French master of suspense Claude Chabrol returns with the razor-sharp, darkly seductive film A Girl Cut In Two. Gabrielle Deneige (Ludivine Sagnier of Swimming Pool) is an independent, ambitious TV weather girl torn between her love of a distinguished author several decades her senior (Francois Berleand), and the attentions of a headstrong, potentially unstable young suitor (Benoit Magimel). An unspoken past between the two men heightens tensions, and though she's initially certain of her love for one them, the see-saw demands and whims of both men keep confusing - and darkening - matters. Before long she's encountering emotional and societal forces well beyond her control, inexorably leading to a shocking clash of violence and passion.

In the effervescent new comedy from writer/director Mike Leigh (Vera Drake, Secrets & Lies), Sally Hawkins stars as Poppy, an irrepressibly free-spirited school teacher who brings an infectious laugh and an unsinkable sense of optimism to every situation she encounters. Poppy's ability to maintain her perspective is tested as the story begins and her commuter bike is stolen. However, she enthusiastically signs up for driving lessons with Scott (Eddie Marsan), who turns out to be her nemesis--a fuming, uptight cynic. As the tension of their weekly lessons builds, Poppy encounters even more challenges to her positive state of mind: a fiery flamenco instructor, her bitter pregnant sister, a troubled homeless man and a young bully in her class. How this affects not only Poppy's world view but also the outlook of those around her begs the question "glass half full or half empty?" - Moviefone
