Lights on a Ground of Darkness
Kooser's Lights on a Ground of Darkness Named One of Top Offerings This Fall from Independent Presses

Publishers Weekly magazine has named Ted Kooser's Lights on a Ground of Darkness one of the top 20 books published by university and independent presses this fall.

Lights on a Ground of Darkness, was listed among the "dazzling array of works" from independent publishers in the Aug. 31 issue of Publishers Weekly. PW describes Kooser’s writing as "precise" and "evocative." The article notes that Kooser has said that writing this book, which is a memoir of the time Ted spent with his mother’s family when he was a little boy, was the most important work he has ever undertaken because it was his attempt to keep these beloved people alive against the relentless erosion of time. more....

New Residence Hall Being Named for the Late Robert Knoll

During his 40-year career at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Robert Knoll taught generations of students to enjoy the rich beauty of English language and literature, pioneered a number of innovative teaching initiatives, and was an exemplary academic citizen and first-rate scholar.

It's fitting, then, that a new residence hall under construction at UNL carry Knoll's name, Chancellor Harvey Perlman said. He announced last week that the new suite-style student residence nearing completion at 17th and R streets will be named the Robert E. Knoll Residential Center. The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will consider approval of the recommendation at its Sept. 4 meeting. more...
