'Tonight Show' Producer, Writers Host First Carson Lectureship

Four insiders from "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson" will share behind-the-scenes insight into some of Carson's most legendary on-air moments when they present the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's first Johnny Carson Lectureship in October. UNL's Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film will host the lecture at 3:30 p.m. Friday, October 16 in the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center, 313 N 13th St. The event is free and open to the public.

Jeff Sotzing, president of Carson Entertainment Group, will be joined by three of the show's former writers -- Anthony DeSena, Andrew Nicholls and Darrell Vickers. The group will show highlights and clips and share stories about Carson's "Tonight Show," which ran from 1962-1992. more...

Alumni Association Hosts 'Football Friday'

The Nebraska Alumni Association will host Football Friday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on October 16 at the Wick Alumni Center, bringing together University of Nebraska alumni, fans, staff and former letter winners for food and football fun.

Featured guests for this week include Matt Davison, Tommie Frazier, Kevin Sjuts (KOLN/KGIN), Brian Rosenthal (Lincoln Journal-Star), and John Bishop (KLIN). Admission to Football Friday is free. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

You Never Can Tell STUDIO THEATRE, TEMPLE BUILDING, FRI 7:30PM, SUN 2PM
UNL's University Theatre Opens Season With "You Never Can Tell"

UNL's Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film's University Theatre opens its season with George Bernard Shaw's "You Never Can Tell" directed by Emeritus Professor Tice L. Miller. The play is a light and witty treatment of the follies of being human, especially when it comes to affairs of the heart.

Performances will be held on October 16 at 7:30 p.m. and October 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the Studio Theatre, first floor Temple Building, 12th and R Streets. Tickets are $16, $14 faculty/staff and senior citizen, $10 students with ID. Tickets are available at the Lied Center Ticket Office, 301 N. 12th Street Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the UNL Theatre Tickets website or at the theatre the evening of performance (subject to availability).

TD Ameritrade Chairman Moglia to Speak at Raikes School
Joseph H. Moglia

Joseph H. Moglia, chairman of TD Ameritrade Holding Corp., will give a lecture at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 16 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science and Management. His talk, "How WE got here -- and where YOU are headed," is free and open to the public and will be presented at the Kauffman Academic Residential Center.

Moglia was elected chairman of the TD Ameritrade Holding Corp. effective Oct. 1, 2008. From March 2001 through September 2008 he served as the company's chief executive officer. Moglia joined TD Ameritrade from Merrill Lynch, where he served as senior vice president and head of the investment performance and product group for Merrill's private client division. He oversaw all investment products, as well as the firm's insurance and 401(k) businesses. more...

Nebraska Native Brings Original Dance Work 'Loopdiver' to the Lied Center

Nebraska native Mark Coniglio and choreographer Dawn Stoppiello, founders of dance company Troika Ranch, collaborate in a stunning, media-enhanced work that will debut at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Johnny Carson Theater at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 16 as part of the 20th anniversary season of the Lied Center for Performing Arts.

Tickets for this performance are $30. University of Nebraska-Lincoln students with a valid ID, as well as youths age 18 or younger, may purchase tickets for half price. Call the Lied Ticket Office at (402) 472-4747 or (800) 432-3231 for ticket availability. Regular ticket office hours are 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays.
