First 'Bach's Lunch' is Friday
The School of Music is offering "Bach's Lunch," a unique brown-bag lunch experience. The first Bach's Lunch is 11:35 a.m., Sept. 24 in 130 Westbrook Music Building. Admission is free. Participants are asked to bring their own lunch.
Bach's Lunch programs will feature student musicians playing compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach. The program is modeled after similar projects at the University of Texas in Austin and the University of Missouri in Kansas City. Today's Bach's Lunch offering will include "Bach Cantata 106 (God's Way is the Best Way)" and "Cantata 47 (He Who Exalts Himself Shall be Humbled)." Both will be performed in original German. more...
Sheldon Chamber Music Series Opens Sunday
The Sheldon Friends of Chamber Music season begins with a free concert, 3 p.m., Sept. 26 in the Sheldon Museum of Art's Ethel S. Abbott Auditorium. A pre-performance lecture begins at 2:30 p.m.
The concert, "Quartet! Quintet! Sextet! Oh Maia!," features cellist cellist Daniel Levitov, his wife and violinist Karin Brown, and the Maia Quartet. The group will perform Haydn's String Quartet Op. 64 No. 5 "Lark," Boccherini String Quintet Op. 11, No 6 "Bird Sanctuary," and Brahms String Sextet No. 2 in G, Op. 36. more...

Lawn Competition, Football Friday, and Parade Celebrate Homecoming
"2010: A Husker Odyssey" is the theme for homecoming week at UNL. A variety of traditional student-led and alumni-welcoming events have taken place during the week, with a full day of events on Friday leading into the Husker football game Sept. 25 vs. South Dakota State University.
Friday homecoming events are:
Lawn display competition: displays will be complete by 10:30 a.m. with judging at noon by Greek Affairs; Football Friday by Nebraska Alumni Association at Wick Alumni Center: 4:30-6 p.m., doors open at 4:30 with talks by Tommie Frazier and Matt Davison, prize give-aways at 5:45, admission is free and kids games and door prizes will be offered; Homecoming Parade: 6-7 p.m., starting at 16th and Vine streets; Scarlet Guard "Homecoming Jester" competition: 7 p.m., Wick, judges are Frazier, Danny Noonan, Jenn Gilmore and 2009 royalty Rob Tualauleli and Beth Butler; introduction of homecoming royalty candidates, Husker Spirit Squad performance: 7-8 p.m., Wick. more...
Fall Break Service Trip Focused on Lincoln
Student Involvement is participating in "Bring It Back to Lincoln," a fall break service trip. The service trip, Oct. 16-19, includes volunteer opportunities with Huskers Helping the Homeless, Goodwill, Lighthouse and Community Crops. Additional service options may be added.
The event is open to faculty, staff and students. Faculty and staff volunteers will lead student groups. For more information, contact Linda Moody at 472-8158, go to the Student Involvement Office, 200 Nebraska Union, or the Student Involvement website.
Faculty of Life Sciences Retreat is Today
UNL's first Faculty of Life Sciences Retreat will be Sept. 24. The retreat, "Challenges and Opportunities for the Life Sciences at UNL in the 21st Century," is a daylong event led by Chancellor Harvey Perlman.
The day begins at 8 a.m. with a welcome, charge for the committee and vision discussion from Perlman, with welcomes from interim senior vice chancellor Ellen Weissinger and IANR vice chancellor Ronnie Green. more....
