Whittier
Whittier Open House is Today

A public open house and dedication of the Whittier Research Center is 5 to 7 p.m., Sept. 28. The former Whittier Junior High School at 19th and Vine street is now home to several research teams and the University Children's Center.

UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman, Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler, UNL Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development Prem Paul, and former Whittier principal and Lincoln Public Schools administrator Dave Myers will speak at the event. Eight Students Win Engler Scholarships
Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Scholarship Program

Eight College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources students were awarded scholarships from the Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Scholarship Program at UNL's Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Earlier this year, the Paul F. and Virginia J. Engler Foundation provided a gift of $20 million over 10 years to fund the Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program. Paul Engler, a NU alumnus and Texas cattleman, said he hoped his gift would help identify students with the entrepreneurial drive and then teach them the skills necessary to succeed. more...

 

Campus Testing Loudspeaker System Today
Test

As part of UNL's efforts to deliver timely notification on campus about emergencies, a test of a Wide Area Notification system is scheduled for 4 p.m., Sept. 28.

The test is part of a national facilities conference and emergency planning session. The test equipment will be set up near the City Utility Plant at 14th and W streets and directed to the west, toward Memorial Stadium. While the system has the ability to be focused in a particular direction, there may be some carryover or echoes from campus and neighborhood buildings. more...

Software Engineers Earn $4M for Air Force Project
Software engineering

A team of UNL software engineering researchers has earned a nearly $4 million grant from the U.S. Air Force's Office of Scientific Research for a project to help the Air Force find and fix faults in modern military systems.

Military systems are a complex assembly of hardware systems, software systems and human beings all interacting to achieve an overall mission objective, said Matthew Dwyer, professor and Hensen chair of software engineering. more...

International Affairs Hosts Study Abroad Fair

International Affairs will host their annual Study Abroad Fair today in the Nebraska Union from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. The event will feature information on study abroad programs, financial aid information, study abroad advising, and a drawing for a $250 study abroad scholarship.

The seventh-annual Mid-Semester Check for first-year and entering transfer students is Sept. 27 through Sept. 30. The program is offered in two sessions, 6-7:30 p.m. and 7-8:30p.m., each night in the Nebraska Union.
