The Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will celebrate Art Beyond Sign Awareness Month with a special musical performance Oct. 1 at its October First Friday event. Chances Are, a singing group made up of three blind and visually impaired performers, will sing at 5:15 p.m. in the Sheldon Great Hall. more...

Morrill Hall Hosts "NaturePalooza Nebraska" on Oct. 2
Naturepalooza

The University of Nebraska State Museum and the UNL School of Natural Resources will host the first-ever "NaturePalooza Nebraska" from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Oct. 2 at Morrill Hall.

The event provides a day of discovery and hands-on activities throughout the museum with stations staffed by the school's faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students. Activities and games will help visitors better understand Nebraska's rich natural resources and ways to help protect them. more...

Morrill Hall's 'Wildlife and Nature' Amateur Photo Exhibit Opens

The University of Nebraska State Museum will open its "Wildlife and Nature" amateur photography exhibit Oct. 1 on the third floor of Morrill Hall, located south of 14th and Vine streets on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln City Campus.

Amateur photographers from across Nebraska submitted entries July 1 to Sept. 30 as part of the museum's second annual photography contest. Nearly 500 images of birds, mammals, plant life, other wildlife, natural landscapes, and people interacting with nature will be showcased for museum visitors to enjoy. Theatrix Opens 2010 Season With "Compleat Female Stage Beauty"

Theatrix, the student-run theatre organization at the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, opens its 2010-2011 season with a spirited production of "Compleat Female Stage Beauty," written by Jeffrey Hatcher.

"Compleat Female Stage Beauty" will have performances on Oct. 1 - 2 at 7:30 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee showing on Oct. 3. All performances will be held in the Lab Theatre - located on the third floor of the Temple Building. Individual Show Tickets are $6 (some user fees may be applied) at UNL Theatre Tickets website or at the theatre the evening of performance (subject to availability).

Alloy Orchestra Accompanies Metropolis Live at the Ross
Alloy Orchestra Metropolis

The Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center will show a live screening of the Alloy Orchestra performing its new score for the silent film "Metropolis" at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 2.

The Alloy Orchestra is a three-man ensemble that includes Terry Donahue (junk, accordion, musical saw, vocals), Ken Winokur (director, junk percussion and clarinet) and Roget Miller (keyboards). The group is known for their outrageous assemblage of objects from which they thrash and grind to create soulful music.

 

"Frame By Frame" Discusses Metropolis

In this episdoe of "Frame By Frame," film studies professor Wheeler Winston Dixon tracks the history and recent restoration of Fritz Lang's 1927 science-fiction classic, Metropolis.
