Human Rights Activist to Discuss Modern-Day Slavery
Jane Olson
International human rights activist Jane Olson will speak on modern-day slavery at 5 p.m. in Andersen Hall. Olson is a 1964 UNL journalism and history graduate. This event is sponsored by Nebraska Students Against Modern-Day Slavery and is free and open to the public.
Olson recently completed her term as chair of the board of trustees of Human Rights Watch in Pasadena, Calif., where she and her husband live. She currently serves on the Emeritus Board for the organization. Human Rights Watch is the largest U.S.-based nongovernmental organization protecting human rights across the globe. more...

French Scholar Cuir to Examine Role of Cyborg in Art
Raphael Cuir
French scholar Raphael Cuir will present "The Cyborg As a Figure of Projection" at 3:30 p.m., Nov. 4 in the Nebraska Union Georgian room. Presented in conjunction with the Orlan exhibition at the Sheldon, this lecture will address the figure of the cyborg as depicted in literature and movies.
Cuir received his doctorate in art history from the Ecoles des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris, France. He has published numerous articles on the history of art and contemporary art and has worked as a writer for the Art Press Journal. Cuir currently conducts research on the representation of the body focusing on anatomy and art from the Renaissance to the present. more...

Composition students from the School of Music will present original works in a "Wet Ink!" concert at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Recital Hall room 119. This event is free and open to the public.

Chancellor Harvey Perlman has appointed seven faculty to the Nebraska Innovation Campus Faculty Advisory Committee. The committee will guide and recommend to the Nebraska Innovation Campus Development Corporation and the chancellor on planning, development and occupancy of Nebraska Innovation Campus.

There will be a Cather Colloquium event 4 p.m. Nov. 4 in the Special Collections reading room in Love Library. Members of the UNL and regional Cather community will read aloud from their favorite Cather letters. Refreshments will be served and Cather letters will be on display. This event is free and open to the public.
The Cather Colloquium is an informal collaboration between the Cather Project and the libraries.
