Study: Online Undergrads Learn Well Without Strong Bond With Classmates
Online learning

College students participating in a new study on online courses said they felt less connected and had a smaller sense of classroom community than those who took the same classes in person - but that didn't keep online students from performing just as well as their in-person counterparts.

The UNL study gauged students' perception and performance in three undergraduate science courses that had both online and face-to-face class versions. It found that online students did not feel a sense of cohesion, community spirit, trust or interaction, elements that have been shown to foster effective classroom learning. more...

Research Annual Report
Annual Research Report Now Published Online

The Office of Research and Economic Development's 2009-2010 annual report is now available online at the Research and Economic Development website. This report features the variety of research, scholarship and creative activities of UNL faculty members. The website includes bonus videos, photos and other resources.

A PDF version of the published report is also available for download. The report highlights examples of UNL's diverse research accomplishments during the fiscal year that ended June 30.

 

'Student Bodies' Program From UNL Starts Showing

Six UNL students and a faculty member are featured in the mtvU reality show "Student Bodies" which begins airing Nov. 22. (Check local listings, viewing schedules may change.)

The three-episode series premiers a fresh show each of the next three weeks on the network and online. It features two student teams, led by UNL Army ROTC cadets Brandon Meyer and Ben Paige in the role of personal trainers. Master Sergeant Thomas Gray, a senior military science instructor, rallies the teams as they compete for weight loss and overall fitness in a six-week boot camp. Inside Job; Animal Kingdom Play at the Ross

UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Inside Job and Animal Kingdom. Inside Job will show through Nov. 25, while Animal Kingdom will screen through Dec. 2.
