Holiday Closedown, December 24 - January 2, 2010

Some Campus Venues Open During Closure

There will be no classes and most offices will be closed at UNL during the university's annual holiday shutdown Dec. 24-Jan. 2. Several venues will be open to the public at least some of the time during that stretch, however.

For a full list of galleries, museums and other public venues and their opening and closing schedules Dec. 24-Jan. 2. UNL offices reopen Jan. 3 and spring semester classes begin Jan. 10, read this full list of schedules.

Research Annual Report
Annual Research Report Published Online

The Office of Research and Economic Development's 2009-2010 annual report is available online at the Research and Economic Development website. This report features the variety of research, scholarship and creative activities of UNL faculty members. The website includes bonus videos, photos and other resources.

A PDF version of the published report is also available for download. The report highlights examples of UNL's diverse research accomplishments during the fiscal year that ended June 30.

 

Contamination clean-up
Researchers Help Clean Former Cozad landfill

The synergy created from an experienced researcher mentoring promising and creative graduate students has resulted in a seemingly effective and low-cost solution to groundwater contamination at a former central Nebraska landfill.

For the past year and a half, UNL soil environmental chemist Steve Comfort and several of his Environmental Restoration Science graduate and undergraduate students have been working at an abandoned landfill near Cozad to clean up groundwater contaminated with toxic trichloroethylene (TCE), a once commonly used solvent and degreaser. more...

 

Amphibians
Sartore 'Amphibians' Exhibit at State Museum

The University of Nebraska State Museum in Morrill Hall is hosting "Amphibians: Vibrant and Vanishing," an exhibit featuring photography by National Geographic Photographer Joel Sartore.

"Amphibians" includes more than 70 photographs of amphibians. The exhibit, shown in the Cooper Gallery, is on display through Nov. 30. "Amphibians" showcases the incredible diversity of these creatures. Large-scale images give visitors a close-up look at the amphibians. more...
