Highway Paleontology Celebrates 50-Year Partnership
The University of Nebraska State Museum and the Nebraska Department of Roads are celebrating 50 years of life in the past lane. A special exhibit at Morrill Hall highlights the spectacular fossil finds salvaged over the last five decades through Nebraska's Highway Paleontology Program, a collaborative effort between the state agencies.
"Highway Paleontology: Life in the Past Lane" features rare specimens, including the remains of a six-foot-tall flightless bird, a 40-foot-long plesiosaur, a lion 25 percent larger than the modern African lion and a giant land tortoise discovered by the program in 2009. more...

Shavers to open MLK Week events
College of Law associate dean and professor Anna Williams Shavers will open UNL's observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. national holiday with a Jan. 18 keynote address. Shavers will deliver "Dream Deferred" during the Chancellor's Program, 6 p.m. in the Nebraska Union Ballroom. The lecture will address current struggles for educational equality, immigration, health care reform and racial equality.
The program will also include the presentation of the chancellor's Fulfilling the Dream awards. The Fulfilling the Dream awards are presented to individuals or groups who have contributed to the UNL community or the wider Lincoln community by their exemplary action in promoting the goals and vision of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
This year's winners are Charlene Maxey-Harris for the campus award and T.J. McDowell for the Lincoln community award. more...

UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Tiny Furniture and Made in Dagenham Tiny Furniture will screen through Jan. 20, while Made in Dagenham will show through Jan. 27.
