Lecture to Examine Sex Differences in the Brain

The first event of the Women's and Gender Studies Spring Colloquium series will examine sex differences in the human brain and their hormonal basis.
The lecture, "Brain Sex: Truth, Tall Tales and Time for a Development Perspective," is 7:30 p.m., Jan. 24 in the Gaughan Multicultural Center, room 212. Lise Eliot, a neuroscientist and professor at the Chicago Medical School of Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, will lead the discussion. James Alfano
Alfano to Discuss Bacterial Effects on Plants
Dr. James Alfano will present "Green Revolution: The Covert Takeover of the Plant Immune System by Bacterial Virulence Proteins" at 4 p.m., Jan. 24 in 264 Keim Hall.
Alfano is the Charles Bessey Professor of Plant Pathology in the Department of Plant Pathology at UNL.

Exhibit Features Powell's Fulbright Trip to Namibia
An exhibit featuring photos from Larkin Powell's Fulbright Fellowship in Namibia opens Jan. 24 in the Nebraska Union's Rotunda Gallery. The exhibit, "Beneath the Sand: A Photo Journey of Our Year in Namibia," is open through Jan. 28.
Powell is a wildlife ecologist in the School of Natural Resources. Powell, his wife, Kelly, and their son, Tristan, spent 2009 on the Fulbright in Namibia. Powell taught at Polytechnic of Namibia in Windhoek. The family's photos chronicle the animals, people and places experienced. A March 26, 2009, Scarlet story features their experience.
Made in Dagenham; Tamara Drewe Play at the Ross
UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Made in Dagenham and Tamara Drewe. Made in Dagenham will show through Jan. 27, while Tamara Drewe will screen through Feb. 3.
