Women's Week
Women's Week Celebration March 14-18

UNL will observe Women's Week March 14-18, with a variety or events and displays. The theme for the celebration is "Visions of Sisterhood."

Women's Week events are organized by Student Involvement. For more information, go to Student Involvement website or call (402) 472-2597.

Monosson to Discuss Motherhood, Science
Motherhood

Emily Monosson will present "Motherhood, The Elephant in the Laboratory: Reconsidering What It Means to be a Scientist," 3:30 to 5 p.m., in the Nebraska Union. Monosson will describe what led to the publication of her essays. This event is free and open to the public.

Monosson is a toxicologist with a B.S. from Union College, and an M.S. and Ph.D. from Cornell University. She works part-time as a consultant, writer, teacher and researcher while navigating the ups and downs of balancing a career in science and caring for her two children. more...

Career Services Hosts Undeclared Major Open House
Career Services

Career Services is hosting an open house for undeclared students from noon to 6 p.m., at the Career Services office in the Nebraska Union.

The open house will offer students a chance to explore various interests and skills, and how they can relate to UNL majors. Refreshments will be provided.

Global Friends of Japan Offer Relief Concert

The UNL student group Global Friends of Japan is holding a relief/donation concert at 7 p.m., today in the Nebraska Union Ballroom. Donations will be used to assist earthquake/tsunami survivors in Japan through the American Red Cross, Save the Children, and an official fund set up by the Japanese government.

The concert will feature the band "Put Your Guns On." Entrance is free. Donations will be accepted and tickets will be sold for a raffle. Prizes will include gift cards from local businesses. more...

 

Spring Break Kit
Free Spring Break 'Survival Kits' to be Distributed March 14-16

The University Health Center and Campus Rec Centers are teaming up to distribute spring break survival kits on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the week of March 14-16. All kits consist of a BPA-free water bottle filled with useful travel items.

The kits will be distributed at the following times and locations:

  • 8 a.m., March 15 - East Campus Activities Building
  • 10 a.m., March 16 - Campus Rec Center
  • 11 a.m.-2 p.m., March 16 - Nebraska Union at the "Safe Spring Break Fair" sponsored by the University Health Center

Sheldon Hosts Contemporary Still-Life Lecture
Contemporary Still Life

Janet Farber will give a talk on aspects of contemporary still-life creation at 5:30 p.m., March 15 at the Sheldon Museum of Art. Farber's talk, which is free and open to the public, relates to Sheldon's "Poetical Fire: Three Centuries of Still Lifes" exhibition.

Farber is director of the Phillip Schrager Collection of Contemporary Art, a private gallery in Omaha. more...

UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Vision: From the Life of Hildegard von Bingen and White Material. Both films will screen through Mar. 17.
