In the days leading up to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's entry into the Big Ten Conference on July 1, the Athletic Department's Randy York is posting a series of 10 N-Sider columns. This Countdown to the Big Ten series will culminate with an N-Sider on Big Ten Conference Commissioner Jim Delany on July 1. UNL technology powers Nebraska solar panel startup
NUtech Ventures at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Rare Earth Solar, a new Nebraska company, have announced an exclusive license agreement expected to lead to the development of breakthrough solar panel technology made with rare earth elements. Rare Earth Solar will be the first solar panel manufacturer in Nebraska.
Chin Li "Barry" Cheung, assistant professor of chemistry at UNL, and his then-doctoral student Joseph Brewer developed the patent-pending technology, which replaces the typical semiconductor materials now used in solar cell manufacture with rare earth elements. Read more in the full press release.

Jazz in June closes with Joseph Vincelli
Celebrating its 20th season, the Jazz in June concert series closes on June 28 with Joseph Vincelli. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and will draw thousands of revelers to sit under the trees on the plaza west of the Sheldon 12th and R streets. In conjunction with the performances, the Jazz in June Market offers dinner or shopping. Dinner items, fresh produce, baked goods, ice cream from the UNL Dairy Store and many more delights are available for purchase.
Saxophonist Vincelli, a New Jersey native, has toured and recorded with the likes of Buddy Miles, Ice Cube, Bobby Goldsboro, Jerry Vale and Burt Reynolds. Vincelli lives in Dallas, where he's recorded 10 albums over a seven-year period and recently finished a 15-year project, a three-volume book series, "My Friend, Music."
