Wagler selected to Apple Distinguished Educator Program
Adam Wagler
Adam Wagler, an advertising and public relations professor, has been selected for the Apple Distinguished Educator program. Wagler joins 76 newly selected members for the class of 2011.
Started in 1994, the ADE program provides a unique forum for Apple and exemplary educators worldwide to exchange ideas and information about the effective uses of new technologies in the creation of engaging learning environments that will promote student achievement and academic scholarship. Movies on the Green kicks off with 'His Girl Friday'
Join us for a selection of comedies in this year's Movies on the Green, Thursdays July 14 - Aug. 18. All of the screenings are presented on the grass in front of Kimball Recital Hall, located at 12th and R Streets. Screenings are free and open to the public and begin at dusk (approximately 9 p.m.). Concessions will be available for purchase at the event.
A whirlwind of overlapping dialogue and plot twists, the Howard Hawks classic "His Girl Friday" features hard-nosed newspaper reporter Hildy Johnson (Rosalind Russell) about to forsake journalism to marry a dolt. Her editor and ex-husband, Walter Burns (the mischievous Cary Grant), plots to win her back by leading her to a late-breaking headliner about a political execution, a story that Walter knows Hildy can't pass up. Things get comically complicated in this second screen version of the Ben Hecht/Charles MacArthur play The Front Page.
Poll: Rural Nebraskans plugged in, engaged online
The digital divide in rural Nebraska has narrowed significantly and appears to be more socio-economic than technological at this point, according to results from the 2011 Nebraska Rural Poll.
The 16th annual UNL poll, taken last March and April, found that 91 percent of rural Nebraskans own a cell phone, though how they use that technology varies significantly among demographic groups. Three-quarters of respondents use the Internet or email from home; 18 percent said they had no access at home. Read more about the Rural Poll on Today@UNL.
Fountain Frolics concert Thursday is Lightning Bugs
The Fountain Frolics summer concert series continues with "The Lightning Bugs" July 14 on the Nebraska Union Plaza. The UNL Dairy Store will be selling lunches in July, and Pepsi products will be sold at all dates.
WThe Lightning Bugs is a jazz trio featuring Jim Pipher, Reynold Peterson and Steve Hanson. The band's name is borrowed from title of the pop-music classic "Glow Worm." Their repertoire includes jazz and pop standards from the 1930s and 1940s. The Lightning Bugs have performed since 1987 and have released four recordings, "The Lightning Bugs," "Bugology," "Stretchin' Out" and "Glow."
