Space law expert: Shuttle's end opens new era, new legal issues in spaceflight

The space shuttle's final mission marks the end of an era, but also opens an unprecedented age of private and commercial spaceflight. This new era will require international collaboration to keep watch over the practice, a UNL professor and internationally renowned space law expert said this week.
Frans von der Dunk said that in the short term NASA will be dependent on other countries' vehicles for manned spaceflights to the International Space Station. Movies on the Green "The Errand Boy" is July 21
Join us for a selection of comedies in this year's Movies on the Green, Thursdays July 14 - Aug. 18. All of the screenings are presented on the grass in front of Kimball Recital Hall, located at 12th and R Streets. Screenings are free and open to the public and begin at dusk (approximately 9 p.m.). Concessions will be available for purchase at the event.
Jerry Lewis's second directorial endeavor, "The Errand Boy," finds Morty Tashman (Lewis) hired by the CEO of Paramutuel Pictures (Brian Donlevy) to spy on studio employees and report incidents of wastefulness and sloth. Involving a series of "spot gags," Morty wanders all over the lot, making as much of a nuisance of himself as possible. Even non-Jerry Lewis fans will come down will a case of chuckles. Four from UNL are presidential graduate fellows
University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken has announced the eight recipients of 2011-12 Presidential Graduate Fellowships. These prestigious fellowships honor NU graduate students - four at UNL, two at UNO and two at UNMC - on the basis of high scholastic performance, personal accomplishment and innovative research. This year, fellowships are presented in teaching, learning and teacher education; business; chemistry; mathematics and computer science; biology; industrial-organizational psychology; cancer research; and biochemistry and molecular biology.
"The recipients of Presidential Graduate Fellowships are among the University of Nebraska's most outstanding students - future scientists, teachers and business leaders who are accomplishing extraordinary things in the laboratory, the classroom and beyond," Milliken said. "We are fortunate to have a level of private support that allows us to provide these students an opportunity to devote full time to their academic pursuits. Nebraska Jazz Combo plays Thursday for Fountain Frolics
The Fountain Frolics summer concert series continues with Nebraska Jazz Combo July 21 on the Nebraska Union Plaza. The UNL Dairy Store will be selling lunches in July, and Pepsi products will be sold at all dates.
The "Nebraska Jazz Combo" is made up of faculty members of the Nebraska Jazz Camp, held July 19-23 at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Nebraska Jazz Camp, an educational program of the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra, is an opportunity for young jazz students to study with professional musicians, participate in big bands and combos, and attend local jazz performances. The faculty of the Nebraska Jazz Camp consists of professional jazz musicians who are well known regionally and nationally. Read more about Fountain Frolics on Today@UNL.
