Roundabouts by Memorial Stadium to open Aug. 13
The new roundabout road system northeast of Memorial Stadium is scheduled to open to traffic Aug. 13. The project at 10th Street and Salt Creek Roadway is the first roadway improvement to be completed as part of the new traffic system for Lincoln's Haymarket Arena.
Information about how to drive on a roundabout (including a video simulation of the system) is available at city of Lincoln website. The roundabouts have been designed to handle year 2030 demand of 2,100 to 3,000 trips during the afternoon peak hour. Plans for traffic flow before and after Husker games are being developed and will be posted on the website. Read more about the roundabouts on Today@UNL.
Movies on the Green continues with "Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice"

The Jensen's Cinema 16 Collection Movies on the Green series continues Aug. 11 with the film "Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice." Films in the series begin at dusk (approximately 9 p.m.) on the lawn north of Kimball Hall. Screenings are free and open to the public. Concessions are available for purchase.
"Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice" is inspired by a weekend retreat of emotional honest and sexual openness. Want-to-be hipsters Bob (Robert Culp) and Carol (Natalie Wood) return to their Los Angeles home and begin preaching the principles of free love. The messages horrify Bob and Carol's straight-laced best friends, Ted (Elliot Gould) and Alice (Dyan Cannon). Loosened by the message, Ted and Alice eventually reveal affairs and longings of their own, comically reflecting the confusion of the Eisenhower generation when faced with the temptations of the counterculture.

Archaeological survey continues project at Red Willow Reservoir
The University of Nebraska State Museum's Nebraska Archaeological Survey is conducting further archaeological investigations at several prehistoric sites this summer at Red Willow Reservoir (Hugh Butler Lake) in Frontier County.
Additional funds were granted recently to continue this field work, which began in 2010. Support for this project is provided by the Department of Interior's Bureau of Reclamation under a new five-year cooperative agreement with UNL. These investigations will enable archaeologists to assess the scientific potential of cultural resources within this area of the Great Plains. The project will continue through 2015. Hunter named admissions director; Barber to head Extended Ed

(l-r) Amber Hunter, Marie Barber
Amber Hunter has been promoted to director for admissions at UNL. At age 31, Hunter is UNL's youngest and first African-American director for admissions. "It is an honor and a privilege to serve as the director for undergraduate admissions," said Hunter. "I look forward to working with UNL faculty, staff, and alumni in my new role to share with prospective students why UNL is a high-quality and affordable choice."
With more than 10 years experience in higher education admissions leadership, Hunter understands how to enhance and diversify a student body. She came to UNL in 2002 from the University of Kansas Office of Admissions and Scholarships as the assistant director for diversity recruitment. The last five years, she has served as an associate director/dean working with freshman recruitment; her work has been integral part of UNL's nine-year increase in enrollment. Summer research poster session is Aug. 10

UNL Summer Research Scholars will showcase their work in a poster session, 1 to 3 p.m., Aug. 10 in the Nebraska Union Ballroom. Researchers include participants in the Nebraska Summer Research program and the McNair Scholars program. The poster session is free and open to the public.
The Nebraska Summer Research Program is a consortium of NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates and other summer research opportunities programs. The programs partner with the Office of Graduate Studies. The McNair Scholars Program was started in 1986 by the U.S. Department of Education. It is named in honor of astronaut Ronald McNair, who died during the Jan. 28, 1986 launch of the Space Shuttle Challenger. UNL's McNair Scholars Program encourages students to pursue graduate studies by providing opportunities to define goals, engage in research, and develop the skills and student/faculty mentor relationships critical to success at the doctoral level.
