Homecoming

Homecoming royalty finalists selected

Twenty-four senior students have been selected as Homecoming royalty finalists at UNL. The homecoming king and queen will be elected by a vote of the student body Oct. 6 and crowned Oct. 8 at halftime of the Nebraska vs. Ohio State football game at Memorial Stadium. Career fairs to attract nearly 300 employers

It's career fair season and nearly 300 employers will be on campus Oct. 4-6 and Oct. 13 to recruit UNL students and alumni for internship and full-time opportunities in all areas. Today, the College of Engineering Career Fair will take place in the Nebraska Union from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Students and alumni should plan to dress professionally and bring several copies of their resume. Faculty and staff are welcome to come and visit with employers as well. Read more about the fall Career Fair on Today@UNL.

Flying robots AVERY HALL ROOM 115, 4PM

Colloquium to discuss Ascending Technologies, flying robots

Daniel Gurdan and Jan Stumpf, founders and chief executives of Ascending Technologies, will present the design of a highly flexible quadcopter platform during a colloquium at 4 p.m., Oct. 4 in 115 Avery Hall. A reception will precede the colloquium at 3:30 p.m. in 348 Avery Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Gurdan and Stumpf will discuss the quadcopter's mechanical design as well as the flight control system architecture, which is built for easy adaption to a variety of experiments. They will also discuss the founding of their company Ascending Technologies in January 2007.

Dan Duncan

Dan Duncan, assistant dean and director of the Agricultural Research Division at UNL, has agreed to become executive director of Nebraska Innovation Campus effective Oct. 1, UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman announced.

Before his appointment in 2004 as assistant dean and director at ARD, Duncan served 16 years as director of the University of Nebraska Agricultural Research and Development Center. The ARDC is a 9,500-acre research facility that serves as the main land-based research site for Lincoln faculty and graduate students. Read more about this program on Today@UNL.

School of Music to host preview of 'Portals'

The School of Music and professor of piano Paul Barnes will welcome acclaimed violinist and "Portals" creator Tim Fain and members of his creative team to campus Oct. 4 for a special preview of "Portals." This preview will segue into the Midwest premiere at KANEKO, an open space for creativity in Omaha, Oct. 5-6. KANEKO's Experimental Studio has supported the project and served as film co-producer.

The preview at UNL will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Oct. 4 in Westbrook Music Building Rm. 119. The event is free and open to the public. Read more about this preview on Today@UNL.

 

Burke will present 'Supercharging PR with Social Media'

Shonali Burke, an award-winning communications consultant, will deliver the Paul Wagner Public Relations Lecture, "Supercharging PR with Social Media," at 5:30 p.m., Oct. 4 in Andersen Hall. The lecture is open to UNL faculty, students and staff.

"Burke is a leading expert in PR research and measurement," said Gary Kebbel, dean of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. "We're delighted to bring in an experienced professional in an area of growing student interest." Read more about this program on Today@UNL.
