New email system rollout begins today

UNL will begin transitioning faculty and staff email to Microsoft Office 365 on Dec. 19. The first to migrate to the new system will be the Office of the Chancellor, vice chancellors and support staff.

All departmental email accounts for faculty and staff will be transferred during a six-month period. UNL employees are encouraged to work with departmental leadership and technical staff as many departments will migrate as a group to the new email system. email scams

Email migration is prime-time for scams

The University of Nebraska's email migration project to Office 365 presents an opportunity for email scams and phishing attempts. Faculty and staff should never respond to emails that they suspect contain malicious links or requests for login or requests for personally identifiable information such as logins and passwords. UNL will never ask for login or password information by email or in person.

"Events like the email migration project, as well as certain annual events like the start of the academic year and tax refund season are often targeted by online criminals," says Rick Haugerud, Information Services security administrator. Chem lab

Redesigned chem labs open in spring semester

Drywallers, electricians, painters, floor installers and cabinet makers are tripping over each other as the race to finish the new Chemistry 109 labs before second semester's start enters its final leg. Mark Griep, associate professor of chemistry, and Eric Malina, associate professor of practice, have their fingers crossed that the projects will finish on time. In any event, they've scheduled a launching party for 3 p.m. Jan. 5.

Griep, who heads the department's academic affairs, Malina, who leads its undergraduate teaching efforts, their faculty colleagues, and many students will be glad when the project concludes. That's because in addition to the first renovations the introductory chemistry labs have undergone in more than 40 years, the department has recrafted its introductory curriculum for the first time in more than a decade. Bus operating schedule changes Today

Bus

During the days in the academic year when classes are not in session, Parking and Transit Services adjusts the bus schedule to reflect the lower passenger demand. On Dec. 19, the bus schedule will adjust to a 20-minute wait between buses on City Campus, and 10-minute wait on East Campus.

The campus buses operate from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Regular bus service begins again Jan. 9.
