Confucius Institute offers Chinese language, culture and music courses
The UNL Confucius Institute is offering Chinese language, culture and music classes during the spring semester. The courses are non-credit with topics that include beginning, intermediate and advanced Chinese language; poems and composition; culture; calligraphy and painting; and music.
The courses start Jan. 17. Course costs range from $100 to $150 per student. Course materials are included in the price. All Lincoln classes meet in Nebraska Hall. Read more about this challenge on Today@UNL.

Biennial Faculty Art Exhibition opens
The Biennial Faculty Art Exhibition, featuring the work of art and art history faculty, will be on display at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall from Jan. 17 to Feb. 17. A reception for the exhibition will be held 5:30 to 7 p.m., Jan. 23. The reception is free and open to the public.
The exhibition features artwork in all mediums: painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, photography, video, graphic design and mixed media formats, created by faculty members teaching this academic year in the Department of Art and Art History. Lied Center to get new state-of-the-art sound system
Technology advancements are helping amp up the sound system in the Lied Center for Performing Arts.
"The center is launching a revitalization effort to ensure the Lied Center continues to be one of the finest performing arts centers in the United States," said Bill Stephan, Lied Center executive director. "Over the past 20 years there have been major improvements in audio technology. As a venue that takes pride in hosting the greatest artists in the world, the Lied strives to maintain a 'like new' facility condition and provide state-of-the art theater equipment for the benefit of both artists and audiences," he said.
"Thanks to the generous support of many individuals and organizations, we have the funds to complete phase one of the Lied Center's Sound System enhancement," Stephan said.
