Lenton is Heuermann lecturer

"Water for Food: Think globally, act locally" is the topic for the Heuermann Lecture at 3:30 p.m. in Hardin Hall auditorium. Professor Roberto Lenton, internationally known water management and development expert, will present the lecture.

Founding director of the Robert B. Daugherty Water for Food Institute at the University of Nebraska as of Feb. 1, Lenton comes to the university after serving as chairman of the Independent World Bank Inspection Panel since 2009. Read more about Lenton and this lecture in Today@UNL.

 

Long distance phone service interruptions

Faculty, staff and students should be aware that a long-distance telephone service outage occurred earlier today and may continue to affect campus intermittently while Windstream works for a permanent solution. Service was unavailable from 12:10-1:15 p.m. today, and the outage may occur again today. A similar service outage happened on Feb. 16.

Anyone needing to make a long-distance call today should consider an alternative method in case the service goes out. Cellular phones appear to be working fine; email also is an option. Updates will be posted on the IS website under Status Alerts. Campus will be notified if a longer term outage is expected or occurs.

3rd annual Employee Quilt Show starts today

Employee quilt show

The Employee Quilt Show is Feb. 20 through March 1 in the Nebraska Union Rotunda Gallery, with 15 quilters displaying 30 quilts, ranging from traditional to modern blocks and fabrics, from pieced to applique, from small to large, from commercial patterns to self designed patterns. The show is free. An opening reception will be held from 5-7 p.m.

Larkins to return July 1 as associate VC for life sciences

Brian Larkins is coming back and will head efforts to strengthen UNL's life sciences research. The internationally recognized leader in the development of plant molecular biology and plant agricultural biotechnology will become associate vice chancellor for life sciences at UNL on July 1.

Ronnie Green, Harlan vice chancellor for the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources and vice president of the University of Nebraska, and Ellen Weissinger, senior vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, made the announcement this week. Read more Larkins and this announcement in Today@UNL.

'Tomboy', 'Albert Nobbs' play at the Ross

The contemporary French coming-of-age film 'Tomboy' and "Albert Nobbs," starring Glenn Close and nominated for three Academy Awards, are currently showing at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center. NICDC unveils strategic plan for Innovation Campus

The Nebraska Innovation Campus Development Board unveiled a Nebraska Innovation Campus strategic plan on Feb. 3 that defines the board's vision, strategic objectives, direction and criteria.

A business plan will be developed to guide the implementation of the strategic plan, NIC executive director Dan Duncan said. The plan serves as a roadmap to help transform the vision into physical, intellectual, environmental and financial outcomes.
