Part-time MBA, education college improve in U.S. News grad rankings

U.S. News and World Report released its 2013 "Best Graduate Schools" rankings March 13. The College of Education and Human Sciences was ranked among Best Education Schools at 34th, up from 50th last year. CBA's "Part-Time MBA" rose from 50th last year to 28th this year in the Best Business Schools.

Among "Schools of Engineering," UNL was listed at number 93 of 198. The UNL College of Law was placed at 89th. Read more about these rankings and others in Today@UNL.

Mooney to talk on plant genetics, anthropods at talk

Kailen A. Mooney

Kailen A. Mooney, of the University of California, Irvine, will present "Plant Genetic Effects on Interactions Among Anthropods: Linking Evolutionary and Community Ecology" at the School of Biological Sciences Seminar, 3:30 p.m. in Hamilton Hall Room 112.

Mooney, assistant professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, studies the interactions between plants, arthropods and insectivorous birds in both ecological and evolutionary contexts. His talk will present the results of manipulative field experiments that investigate these dynamics using natural plant-arthropod systems.

 


Water for Food Proceedings

2011 Water for Food proceedings available

The Proceedings of the 2011 Water for Food Conference, held May 1-4, 2011, is available online. The "Paths to Solutions" publication includes summaries of plenary speakers' presentations, panel discussions, poster competition, photos and a participants list.

Nicholas Abbott

The Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Research lecture series continues with a presentation by University of Wisconsin-Madison professor Nicholas Abbott, 11:30 a.m., March 15 in Othmer Hall, room 205. Lunch provided first come, first served.

Abbott's lecture, "Colloidal and Interfacial Phenomena in Liquid Crystalline Systems," is free and open to faculty, staff and students. Read more about this lecture.

 

Symphonic Band performance is tonight

UNL's Symphonic Band will perform at 7:30 p.m., March 15 in Kimball Hall. The "Absolute Music" concert is directed by Anthony Falcone and features faculty guest artist Paul Haar on tenor saxophone. Tickets, available at the door one hour before the performance, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.

The repertoire includes "Canzona" (1951) by Peter Menin; two movements from Bob Mintzer's "Go!" (2008); Norman Dello Joio's 1968 version of Haydn's "Fantasies on a Theme"; and Symphony No. 6 for Band, Op. 69 (1956) by Vincent Persichetti.

Zsombor Rajkai, associate professor from Kyoto University in Japan. A reception follows the presentation. Rajkai will attend and be available for additional discussion.
