Barnes pays tribute to Philip Glass at Lincoln Center
Hixson-Lied Professor of Piano Paul Barnes continues his collaboration with American composer Philip Glass with his performance "A Retrospective on Philip Glass at 75" on March 31 at 2:30 p.m. in the Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center in New York City.
In honor of Glass' 75th birthday, Barnes will be performing a recital featuring his transcriptions of Glass's music. His program includes "Trilogy Sonata" (2000), Orphëe Suite for Piano" (2000), "Epilogue" (from "Monsters of Grace," unpublished) and "Piano Concerto No. 2 (After Lewis and Clark)" (2004). Auditions for marching band's color guard are Saturday
Color guard auditions for the 2012 Cornhusker Marching Band are March 31 and May 26. Students must complete a first round audition in the spring and a second round audition approximately 10 days before the fall semester begins. Color guard candidates are not required to choreograph routines. All on-site audition materials, routines and music are provided and taught by the UNL band staff. Practice time is built into the schedule so that candidates can become familiar with the routines. The routine involves both flag work and dance.

Weatherfest is March 31
Are you ready for the 2012 severe weather season? State-of-the-art storm readiness information will be available from expert weather watchers at UNL's 12th annual Weatherfest and Central Plains Severe Weather Symposium, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., March 31. The free event, sponsored by UNL's School of Natural Resources, will be in Hardin Hall, 33rd and Holdrege streets.
UNL's Weatherfest includes information that will keep families and communities safe and secure – how to tune in to up-to-the-minute warnings and what to do when you hear them – as well as hands-on activities for young weather enthusiasts and a demonstration of the effects of weather on wildlife, with UNL Extension herpetologist Dennis Ferraro presenting "Snakes Alive at Weatherfest." Itzhak Perlman
Perlman to play the Lied March 31
Undeniably the world's reigning violin virtuoso, Itzhak Perlman returns to the Lied Center for Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m., March 31. Clark Potter, UNL associate professor of viola, will give a pre-performance talk at 7 p.m. in the Lied's Steinhart Room.
Perlman possesses four Emmy Awards and 15 Grammy Awards for his television appearances and recordings. He performed at the 2006 Academy Awards and at the Juilliard School Centennial gala, broadcast nationally on Live from Lincoln Center. Perlman also collaborated with composer John Williams in Steven Spielberg's Academy Award-winning film "Schindler's List," performing the iconic violin solos. UNL Garden Friends Lecture is Sunday

Kelly Norris
Kelly Norris, an up and coming horticulturist from Iowa, will deliver the UNL Garden Friends annual lecture beginning at 2 p.m. April 1 in the Nebraska Union auditorium. The lecture, open to the public, costs $5 per person but is free for members of UNL Garden Friends.
Norris, a 24-year-old horticulturist and plant breeder, is the award-winning author of three books including the "Iowa Gardener's Travel Guide," the first travel guide to Iowa's public gardens and nurseries, and "Cultivating the Rainbow: A Guide to Bearded Irises for Beginners and Enthusiasts," (May 2012, Timber Press). He is currently writing, "Dig This — A Style Guide to Kickass Gardening." Read more about this talk in Today@UNL.
Mueller Planetarium fulldome festival is March 31
Mueller Planetarium in the University of Nebraska State Museum will present a festival of five fulldome shows, starting at 11 a.m., March 31.
The ticket price to see three or more shows on the schedule this day is $8 for adults and $7 for children 18 and under. Friends of the Museum pay $7. Tickets for single shows will also be available at the regular ticket price of $3 adults and $2.50 children. Tickets will be sold at the museum's front desk only on the day of the festival.
