Eighth student Fulbright to teach in Poland
Post-graduate Cara Morgenson works for Lincoln Public Schools as a mentor for highly gifted students, and at the McPhee Community Learning Center as an after-school club teacher. Next year she will be facing a different type of teaching. Starting in the fall, Morgenson will be teaching English in Poland for a year, thanks to her new Fulbright scholarship.
Before graduating with high distinction from UNL in August 2011 with degrees in English and psychology and a minor in women's and gender studies, Morgenson worked part-time jobs in retail and taught at a children's day care. The day care helped show her how much she enjoyed working with children. Her part-time jobs, however, were beneficial for other reasons. Read more about Morgenson and this Fulbright in Today@UNL.
3 to participate in Carnegie-Knight in-depth journalism program
A pair of College of Journalism and Mass Communications graduating seniors and one recent graduate will participate this summer in a national investigative reporting project on voting rights as part of the Carnegie-Knight News21 in-depth journalism program.
The UNL students chosen to participate in the prestigious program are Alia Conley and Alissa Skelton of Omaha, and Emily Nohr of Crofton. Read more about this program in Today@UNL.

Biochemistry Distinguished Alumni Seminar is today
The Biochemistry Distinguished Alumni Seminar will be led by Dr. Deepak Madhavan, director of the Nebraska Comprehensive Epilepsy Program, at 4 p.m. in the Beadle Center, room N172. The seminar, "Epileptology — What's That?" is free and open to the public.
Madhavan is an assistant professor of neurological sciences in the University of Nebraska Medical Center's College of Medicine. He completed a fellowship at New York University, focusing on epilepsy surgery and magnetoencephalography. While at NYU, he was awarded a Research and Training Fellowship for Clinicians from the Epilepsy Foundation of America. Read more about this seminar in Today@UNL.
Hong receives CAREER honor from NSF
The key to making computers and other electronics smaller, faster and less expensive lies in overcoming the limitations of existing materials. Xia Hong believes her research on nanoscale materials will help break through current barriers.
Hong, assistant professor of physics and astronomy and a researcher in UNL's Materials Research Science and Engineering Center, earned a five-year, $600,000 Faculty Early Career Development Program Award from the National Science Foundation to continue her research. Also known as a CAREER award, it is NSF's most prestigious award for outstanding pre-tenure faculty to help them develop as teacher-scholars and researchers. Read more about this honor in Today@UNL.
UNL launches Nebraska App
UNL has launched the Nebraska App, a suite of mobile applications that makes essential university resources available on mobile devices. Students can check grades, access course content and browse the course catalog. They can access the public directory and get in touch instantly, keep tabs on Husker sports, find places on the campus map, stay informed with the latest campus news, watch videos, and even listen to podcasts of popular lectures in iTunesU.
