Putnam is Thompson Forum speaker Oct. 2

An acclaimed author and political scientist known for helping influence the way people think about the fabric of American society will deliver the first lecture of this season’s E.N. Thompson Forum on World Issues.

Robert Putnam, who is Malkin Professor of Public Policy at Harvard University, will present “American Grace: How Religion Divides and Unites Us” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts. The lecture, sponsored by the Nebraska Humanities Council, is also this year’s Governor’s Lecture in the Humanities. Read more about this forum in Today@UNL.

 

Give Back Big

'Give Back. Big.' to award grants for community service projects

The deadline to submit proposals to the "Give Back Big" campaign is Oct. 5. The campaign is a competition for faculty, staff and students to receive funding for proposals designed to change the world around them.

Due to demand, the "Give Back Big" committee expanded the program to award two $1,000 grants. Proposals are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 5 to the Center for Civic Engagement. The proposals will be put to an online campus vote starting Oct. 8. Application materials are available online.

 

Office of Graduate Studies offers chat feature

Starting today, visitors to the Graduate Studies website will be able to chat online with a Graduate Studies representative.

UNLchat is a free chat service developed and maintained by UCommIS Internet and Interactive Media and provided through the UNL.edu web framework. Find at more at the UNLchat website.

 

Faculty Brass Quintet

Faculty Brass Quintet performance is today

The Faculty Brass Quintet will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct 1 in Kimball Recital Hall. Tickets, available at the door one hour prior to the performance, are $5 general admission and $3 for students (with valid identification) and senior citizens.

Members of UNL's Faculty Brass Quintet include Scott Anderson (trombone), K. Craig Bircher (trumpet), Craig Fuller (tuba), Alan Mattingly (horn) and Darryl White (trumpet).

Career Fair

Annual career Fair is Oct. 2-4

More than 300 employer booths will be featured at the UNL Career Fair, Oct. 2-4. A complete list of participating employers is available at the Career Services website. The Career Fair is organized by Career Services. Each day of the fair will focus on a particular area of employment:

Students, alumni, faculty and staff are invited to participate. Students and alumni should dress professionally and bring copies of resumes. Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend and become familiar with opportunities offered by employers. Read more about Career Fair in Today@UNL.

UNL launches Nebraska App

UNL has launched the Nebraska App, a suite of mobile applications that makes essential university resources available on mobile devices. Students can check grades, access course content and browse the course catalog. They can access the public directory and get in touch instantly, keep tabs on Husker sports, find places on the campus map, stay informed with the latest campus news, watch videos, and even listen to podcasts of popular lectures in iTunesU.
