Meisels named director of Buffett Early Childhood Institute

Samuel J. Meisels, one of the nation's leading authorities on the assessment of young children and early childhood development, has been named the founding executive director of the University of Nebraska's Buffett Early Childhood Institute, NU President James B. Milliken announced Oct. 19.

Meisels, currently president of Erikson Institute in Chicago, the country's premier graduate school in child development, will begin at the University of Nebraska on June 1, 2013. 'Drawn to Fashion: Illustrations of Mary Mitchell' at Hillestad Gallery

The Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design announces the dedication of the Mary Mitchell Fashion Studio in conjunction with the exhibition "Drawn to Fashion: The Illustrations of Mary Mitchell."

The public is welcome to view the work of this Omaha fashion illustrator Oct. 22 through Nov. 30 at the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery on the second floor of the Home Economics Building. The Friends of the Gallery will host a First Friday reception in the gallery from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 2. Professors Michael James and Barbara Trout co-curated the exhibition. Garments from the historic costume collection, models for select illustrations, will also be featured in the exhibition. Read more about Mitchell in Today@UNL.

Faculty technology showcase online

Faculty using technology-driven learning are presented in an online showcase, "Faculty and Student Technology (FAST)". The website, produced by Information Services Technology Transforming Teaching, highlights technologies and methods used by UNL faculty to meet learning objectives.

"There's many instructors at UNL using technology in the classroom and online," said Leona Barratt, Technology Training Services Associate. "The FAST showcase is a way to for faculty to share ideas and methods that lead to successful learning outcomes." Read more about the FAST showcase in Today@UNL.

Combined Campaign

UNL Combined Campaign runs to Oct. 26

UNL is aiming to make a big, positive impact by participating in the Lincoln-area Combined Campaign for Health and Human Services, Nov. Oct. 16-26. The theme is "Big Impact — Go Big, Give Big." Combined Campaign pledge materials are being delivered to UNL employees this week. Pledges can be made online or by turning in pledge cards.

Chancellor Harvey Perlman, and Steve Waller, dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, are co-chairs for UNL's 2012 Combined Campaign. Read more about Combined Campaign in Today@UNL.

Food, Fuel, Water photo contest continues

Anyone with a recent photo taken in Nebraska can enter it to win a free iPad in a new Food, Fuel, Water photo contest. Entrants can submit digital photo(s) representing food, fuel or water taken in the state of Nebraska on the Nebraska Innovation Campus website until Nov. 1.

The contest is part of an upcoming groundbreaking event celebrating the start of construction of the core facilities at Nebraska Innovation Campus. Read more about this contest in Today@UNL.

responsive design

The Internet and Interactive Media group of University Communications and Information Services has concluded the first phase in its effort to provide full support to all devices - desktops, laptops, smartphones and tablets - by implementing a suite of web technologies collectively known as 'responsive design.' This week, the internal and external homepages were re-launched as 'responsive' designs.

You can see the effects of responsive design in your desktop browser by simply re-sizing your browser window (the page will reformat as the window is narrowed), or by viewing on your tablet or smartphone. Please use the 'feedback' links at the bottom of the page if you would like to let us know of any issues. Thank you.
