Master plan concept open houses are today, tomorrow
Three conceptual frameworks for City and East campuses will be presented during UNL Campus and Landscape Master Plans Open Houses on Oct. 24 and 25. The sessions are 3 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 24 in the Nebraska Union and 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 25 in Hardin Hall.
Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend and provide feedback that will be used to shape the future of UNL.
The concepts will be presented by representatives of Sasaki Associates of Watertown, Mass. Sasaki is the planning/design firm selected to develop the new campus and landscape master plans. Read more about these open houses in Today@UNL.

Content Convergence Conference is today
University Communications is providing a series of sessions on developing and maximizing the use of content. The first fall session is 1-3 p.m. Oct. 24, room 15 Andersen Hall. Discussion will center on taking one story and using it in several ways — in news, on the Web and in social channels. The session is free and open to all. No need to sign up in advance — just show up and participate in a lively discussion.

Go Green for Big Red to win recycling challenge Saturday
UNL is asking fans to volunteer to "Go Green for Big Red" during a nationwide Game Day Recycling Challenge. At the next Husker home game on Oct. 27 against the Michigan Wolverines, UNL will be taking part in the Environmental Protection Agency-sponsored Game Day Challenge, competing against 72 other universities to see who recycles the most during a game day.
Volunteers are asked to contact UNL's recycling coordinators to register their interest. Volunteers will meet at 5:30 p.m. on the west side of Sheldon Museum of Art, and then follow a group leader to the assigned parking lots where they will collect green bags and take them to the nearest recycling bin. Each volunteer will work at least two hours. A T-shirt, water bottle, and free lunch will be provided. Kickoff for the Oct. 27 game is 7 p.m. Read more about this challenge in Today@UNL.

Faculty, staff can workout for free at Fleming Annex through Nov. 4
The Fleming Fields Annex Building opened for fitness workouts Oct. 22 and will remain in use as a Campus Recreation fitness center during the entire construction period of the new East Recreation Center. The Fleming Fields Annex is located at 2301 N. 33rd Street on the western edge of East Campus.
Hours for the new building are 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday; 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday; 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday; and 1 to 10 p.m. Sunday. Read more about this opportunity in Today@UNL.

Theatrix opens 'Sexual Perversity in Chicago' today
Theatrix, UNL's student-operated theater organization, continues its season with "Sexual Perversity in Chicago" by Pulitzer Prize-winner and Tony-nominated playwright David Mamet.
"Sexual Perversity in Chicago" includes mature themes and language. The production may not be suitable for all audiences. Show times are 7:30 p.m., Oct. 24-26 in the Temple Building Lab Theatre. Sergio Wals, assistant professor of political science and ethnic studies, is among those recently honored as part of the Nebraska Hispanic Heritage Month State Commemoration.
Wals was presented with the 2012 Inspiration Award during a special ceremony hosted by the Nebraska Latino American Commission on Oct. 5 at the Capitol. His students nominated him for the honor, which recognizes his efforts going above and beyond promoting diversity and helping individuals within the Hispanic community. Among other criteria, the Inspiration Award is annually given to an individual who has improved opportunities for academic and social advancement among Hispanic youth and who serves as a role model to Nebraskans of all ages. Survey to gauge international student experience on campus
The International Student and Scholar Office has launched the International Student Barometer. This survey will help UNL improve the international student experience. Faculty and staff are asked to encourage international students to complete the survey by Oct. 31.
The survey forms part of a wider on-going study and is independently administered for UNL by the International Graduate Insight Group. Students who complete the survey can enter to win a $1,000 cash prize or donation to charity. Read more about this survey in Today@UNL.

Food, Fuel, Water photo contest continues
Anyone with a recent photo taken in Nebraska can enter it to win a free iPad in a new Food, Fuel, Water photo contest. Entrants can submit digital photo(s) representing food, fuel or water taken in the state of Nebraska on the Nebraska Innovation Campus website until Nov. 1.
The contest is part of an upcoming groundbreaking event celebrating the start of construction of the core facilities at Nebraska Innovation Campus. Read more about this contest in Today@UNL.

The Internet and Interactive Media group of University Communications and Information Services has concluded the first phase in its effort to provide full support to all devices - desktops, laptops, smartphones and tablets - by implementing a suite of web technologies collectively known as 'responsive design.' This week, the internal and external homepages were re-launched as 'responsive' designs.
You can see the effects of responsive design in your desktop browser by simply re-sizing your browser window (the page will reformat as the window is narrowed), or by viewing on your tablet or smartphone.
