Thompson Forum to examine death penalty
The death penalty remains an intense and impassioned debate, one that draws strong opinions on everything from morality to money. Two experts on the topic will aim to offer new insights on the debate during a public appearance as part of the E.N. Thompson Forum on World Issues.
J. Kirk Brown, Nebraska Solicitor General; and Michael Radelet, a sociologist from the University of Colorado Boulder who has extensively researched capital punishment; will present "The Death Penalty: Justice, Retribution and Dollars" at 7 p.m. at the Lied Center for Performing Arts. The event, which is free and open to the public, is also this season's Chuck and Linda Wilson Dialogue on Domestic Issues. Read more about this discussion in Today@UNL.

How devout are we? Study shows evangelicals surge as Catholics wane
The percentage of Americans who say they are strong in their religious faith has been steady for the last four decades, a new study finds. But in that same time, the intensity of some religious groups has surged while others — notably Roman Catholics — has faded.
"On the whole, the results show that Americans' strength of religious affiliation was stable from the 1970s to 2010," said Philip Schwadel, a UNL sociologist who authored the study, to be published in the journal Sociology of Religion. "But upon closer examination, there is considerable divergence between evangelical Protestants on the one hand and Catholics and mainline Protestants on the other."Read more about this study in Today@UNL.

This week, the internal and external homepages were re-launched as 'responsive' designs.
You can see the effects of responsive design in your desktop browser by simply re-sizing your browser window (the page will reformat as the window is narrowed), or by viewing on your tablet or smartphone. Please use the 'feedback' links at the bottom of the page if you would like to let us know of any issues. Thank you.
