UNL's newest AAAS fellows (from left) James Alfano, Mike Nastasi and L. Dennis Smith.

Alfano, Nastasi, Smith named AAAS fellows

Three UNL professors have been named Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science — the world's largest general scientific society. The tradition of naming AAAS Fellows goes back to 1874. It is a peer-designated selection based on scientifically or socially distinguished efforts among scientists to advance science or its application.

This is the first time three UNL scientists achieved the honor in the same year.

UNL's new AAAS Fellows are L. Dennis Smith, for distinguished contributions to developmental biology and leadership and advocacy on education; James Alfano, for distinguished contributions in research of plant pathogens; and Mike Nastasi, for contributions in energy, manufacturing, nanotechnology and microelectronics. Read more about these fellows in Today@UNL.

HC evaluators recommend moving forward

UNL has received a recommendation from the evaluation committee reviewing the proposal for UNL's student health services to continue to the next phase in the Request for Proposal process.

Bryan Health was the only bidder responding to the September RFP which sought proposals to take responsibility for student health, as early as this spring. The evaluation committee has reviewed the proposal and held presentations for constituent groups. UNL will now pursue discussions with Bryan Health.

responsive design

The Internet and Interactive Media group of University Communications and Information Services has concluded the first phase in its effort to provide full support to all devices - desktops, laptops, smartphones and tablets - by implementing a suite of web technologies collectively known as 'responsive design.' This week, the internal and external homepages were re-launched as 'responsive' designs.

You can see the effects of responsive design in your desktop browser by simply re-sizing your browser window (the page will reformat as the window is narrowed), or by viewing on your tablet or smartphone. Please use the 'feedback' links at the bottom of the page if you would like to let us know of any issues. Thank you.
